My chipmunks

For a long time we had two chipmunks: “Z” girl born in spring 2008 and “Onni” (means Lucky) boy, born in spring 2009. We have trying to find girlfriend for Onni for at least two years now. This fall we finally heard there were some Siberian chipmunks available in Finland. They are very popular here but also very rare. For our luck, we were able to have one lovely young white girl chipmunk. The color wasn’t that important but it was nice to have a white one because all of our previous chipmunks have been standard color.

Timantti

The girl was named Timantti (Diamond). Onni’s cage were build the way that it was easy to build new cage next to it and combine those two cages with hatches. Luckily, we have been able to keep the hatches open so that Onni and Timantti have more space and company from each other.

Chipmunks need lots of space so even it is so wanted as a pet it is not so easy to keep one. If you are interested to have a chipmunk I can’t highlight enough how important it is to get to know the species well before you make any decisions. After all the hard work they are very lovely and delightful pets.

There are some good books about chipmunks:

The Guide to Owning Chipmunks and Similar Species, Chris Henwood

Pet Owner’s Guide to the Chipmunk, Chris Henwood (1998)

About Pets – the Chipmunk (2005)
